If you are an MCU fan that’s looking for a good place to jump into the Captain America comics, this is a great option. While not like the movies, the storyline is both similar enough to not feel overwhelming and different enough to keep you wondering what will happen next. I very much enjoyed this collection and the artwork was superb. Can’t wait to read more of Brubaker’s work.

Put simply, Brubaker’s run on Captain America with mostly Steve Epting on art is a masterpiece of superhero comic book writing. The reexamination of Captain America’s history to reveal how the Winter Soldier came to be and culminating in a humongous moment post Civil War just has to be read. I patiently await the reissuing of Omnibus volume 2 of this stunning character defining run.

This prepared me in no way for Captain America Civil War! If anything it made my stress about the movie worse!

I like graphic novels; I'm not really a huge comic book fan, though. The old, established heroes have too much back story, too many weird points in history, especially if they've been around long enough. But Ed Brubaker can flat out WRITE and he can write Captain America very well. I'm not a big fan of the art and it's a bit convoluted, but the writing is well done and tight.

Brubaker's 25 issues are a great introduction for new readers, giving a crash course in Steve Rogers and some of his key allies and enemies. I wish I'd come to the Winter Soldier stuff unknowing, though, but I can't wait to see what's gonna happen in the cinematic universe with Cap 2.
