Been sat for quite a few months while I have read other things, no desire to pick back up

This is definitely what you’d call a character driven mystery - at times I couldn’t remember what murders we were supposed to be solving since we’d gone so deep into the personal lives of virtually everyone who came on the scene - which would be great if the characters had a bit more depth. The lead character of Nora Gavin is a bit hard to fathom. Does she care about Cormac? Pretty sure she’s supposed to but the chemistry is lacking. Still, I have a bit of a thing for both Irish history and archaeology so I think I’ll trudge on and try the second instalment.

I really liked the premise of this book. I'd give it four stars except for the language of the book. It wasn't gratuitous, but limited to certain characters and circumstances. All told, I will read the next in the series.

A well done mystery. The characters were nicely drawn and the imagery of Ireland was very vivid. The short chapters allowed for a quick pace.

The book was a little hard to begin, there were too many details and the story unfolded slowly, but once it did, it was a pure pleasure, with lots of interesting characters, lots of suspense and mystery, and some exciting historical facts (even made me do my own research on the Internet after the reading :)).

This is a very good mystery with some interesting twists at the end. She did a good job showing the interrelationships of the people in a small Irish community. The sections about archaeology were realistic.
