2nd Chance by James Patterson

I did not read the first book in this series, but really enjoyed this one. As most of Patterson's work, this is what I consider a "candy" read..... it isn't about the literature, but it is a highly engaging read, that goes quickly. I finished the book in essentially about 3 hours.

Lindsay Boxer is a police lieutenant who is coming back to work after a traumatic case. She lands herself right in the middle of a serial murder with lots of red herrings. Add in a rendez-vous with her estranged Dad, and there are all kinds of things to think about in this book.

Recommend if you like fast-paced mysteries.

To my Facebook friends, I also read trash too. This is like most Patterson novels: if you find it somewhere for under a dollar, go for it. It's like book candy...it goes fast and it's enjoyable while you're having it, but afterwards you kind of think "what did I just do?"

This book was wonderful! It was very slow at the beginning because at first it seemed like it would be a flop compared to the first book of the series. But I'm learning with James Patterson, or at least this series, that there is always a really good twist! I thought I had this one figured out several times, but I was wrong! I can't wait to read the next one!

Read for Fun
Challenges: Audiobook, Mystery/Suspense, Read for Fun
Overall Rating: 4.25
Mystery Rating: 4.50
Character Rating: 4.00
Audio Rating: 4.50 (Narrators Melissa Leo and Jeremy Piven)

First Thought When Finished: I really liked the mystery in this book!

What I Loved: The mystery was really strong in this addition to the series. I really loved how it weaved in all the characters and through that we got to know more about them. It also gave you a bit of back story which was really interesting. I am not going to give anything away but once I thought I figured it out--one more loop was thrown into the mix.

What I Liked: We are really getting to know the characters more! I am beginning to like them all and can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Audio Review: I liked the duel voices of a male and female narrator! However, Melissa Leo was a bit stronger which is good because she was the bulk of the book. I love Jeremy Piven though and he voices a good bad guy!

Final Thought: This was a great 2nd edition to the series. While I don't think you have to read these in order (each case stands alone), I think you would miss character development if you read them out of order.

I think I would have liked this more with a different narratorĀ
