Thoroughly enjoyable travel writing that takes the reader to the ends of the earth - good for the armchair (or bathtub) traveler who is unlikely (or just disinclined) to travel to remote Indonesian islands, eat seal eye, or have his genitals mocked by headhunters.

How did Millman manage to find such remote spots in the world? It's not like you can advertise and have people tell you about these places.

Nevertheless, somehow Millman did find these odd places and visited them. The stories he tells while visiting here and there, way, way, way off the map, edge into the unbelievable. I read and read and read. After I finished each chapter, I'd draw another big red X on my map of places I someday want to visit; Millman's taken me about as close to these spots as I ever want to go.
