So I loved the story, but I couldn't get past (and this is an early reveal) that a 26 year old woman would still have arrested development over a ten year old, 6 month long, high school relationship. I mean, the later reveal about the relationship doesn't make it any more believable! Then, the last reveal just never made sense.

But I did really like the story telling. It was engaging. And if I had no experience as a human being, and could suspend disbelief as much as required for this book, it would have been excellent.

In a Dark, Dark Woods is a superb thriller, set in a cabin in the woods during a bachelorette party in England, this story grabs you and doesn't let go. There characters are fantastic and the story twists and turns page after page. If you like thrillers I strongly recommend this one. If you haven't read a thriller I highly recommend this one.

Bottom Line: I really liked it.

I have read this book twice because it's a nice and easy "beach read" with a decent plot.
Nora gets an email about going to her old best friend's Hen weekend in a house in the woods. She's not keen but she goes anyway.
I liked the character of Flo, she's very creepy. She's one of those people who seems so heightened emotionally that it sets you on edge. We can share Nora's feeling of being back at school and being the stuttering loser who is over-reacting and spoiling the party. I liked the awkward group of strangers brought together for the organised fun of a Hen weekend, and the house was a great setting. The glass walls in the middle of a forest means they're isolated and exposed at the same time.
I don't think the murder itself was the scariest thing in the novel, I found the build up was tense but the murder was a let down.
The lost love story seems tragic at first but when you find out she was 16 and it only last 6 months it seems a bit stupid that she's still obsessing over it.
The second half of the book takes place after the events of the night and Nora is in hospital and can't remember anything. I enjoy a bleak ending, and I wish that it had turned out that Nora HAD been the one who killed James. Maybe the years of pining after him, and then finding out he's marrying her old best friend got to be too much for her and she went crazy and killed him. That would have made the book much more interesting in my opinion!
