Refraining from giving a star rating as this is one of my five star predictions.

Reread Update: The ending didn't bother me as much as it did the first time, though I still don't like Emma's parents but Rev's make up for it so four stars.

3.5 I really loved this book, up until the very end which wasn't the worst ending but it really let down what was up to then an truly amazing book.

Spoiler First off, the whole internet friend turns out to be a creep thing just came up at the end because there wasn't enough dark topics covered already with internet threats, abusive fathers and rape, why not add that in to? It was just too much to cover in one book. There was no need to add that element.
And then the whole thing with Emma's parents. Her mom just turned over a new leaf over her daughter's incident while the father couldn't come at all for work and now he's the bad one and she's the good parent and it's just left like that? So maddening. It just felt rushed and didn't unfold naturally whatsoever.
Rev's story was wrapped up, why couldn't Emma's? I do hope we got Mathews story though as I feel there is more to say there.

“I’m going to turn into my father. I keep waiting for it to happen. I’ve read about the cycle of violence, and the way certain traits are carved into your genetic makeup.” My forearms are clenched tight against my abdomen, like I need to physically hold myself together. “It’s like how Dec swears he’ll never touch alcohol again. I have to do that somehow. Because I don’t know how it starts, and I won’t know how to stop.”
