I enjoyed (as much as one could 'enjoy' a Holocaust story) the vast majority of this story. There were details I haven't read in other WWII stories, and I've never seen one with a character that experienced so many different aspects of the war. Being a POW, different ghettos, different camps, different jobs in camps, death marches, train rides, etc.
The reasoning I couldn't give a higher rating was because of the present-day interactions between the characters. The war timeline was fascinating, and I wanted to spend more time there, but every time the author returned to the current conversations with his father it slowed down the pacing too much for my tastes and I found myself bored. Hearing his father complain about his wife over and over and over again wasn't what I came to the book for. We could have seen this one time and it would have been sufficient. And I kept having this feeling throughout the book. There was just too much time spent on the fractious relationship between the author and his father.

Többször a kezeim közé került könyvtárban, de sosem hoztam ki, de most eldöntöttem, hogy eleget teszek a végzetnek és kihozom. Érdekelnek a II. világháborús történetek, ezért gondoltam nagy csalódás nem érhet. Elég különleges könyvnek tartom ahhoz, hogy máskor is eszembe juthasson. Nagyon jó ötlet, hogy valaki képregényként dolgozta fel a holokauszt témáját, ráadásul ez igaz történet, így még jobban megértettem a dolgokat. Másik nézőpontról egyszerűen zseniálisnak tartom, hogy nem emberekként ábrázolta a szereplőket, hanem más-más állatokként. Mindegyiket teljesen eltalálta a szerző, főként a svédek ábrázolása tetszett, de a macskák is találólak voltak, mint a német oldalon állók.
Képregényeket nem olvastam soha, de ez tetszett; a rajzolások is hihetőek voltak, a szövegekkel együtt tökéletes harmóniát alkottak!

Що я дізналася:
1. корисно знати багато мов;
2. корисно вміти робити багато речей руками;
3. корисно вміти заводити друзів;
4. всі описані вище речі абсолютно нічого не гарантують.
Я боялася, що головні герої виявляться ідеалізованими або «прилизаними». Цього, на щастя, не сталося, із персонажами залишилися їхні вади, і майже до всіх я мала змішані почуття. Через це я можу спокійно ставити роману фінальну п'яту зірку.

Fantastic. Super sad, as anyone could imagine. Only giving it four stars as the guy is a bit of an ass.
