I can already tell that The Lunar Chronicles is going to become my next YA fantasy obsession. I had a few reservations going into this one--it's an older title, so I wondered if it would still hold up today, and I wasn't sure if the sci-fi elements would be for me. But this series gets so much love, so I wanted to check it out for myself. And I'm so glad I did, because I absolutely loved this book!

The writing was excellent, the twist on a classic fairytale was so clever, and the characters were super unique and engaging. The high stakes of the premise were very engaging as well--I love political intrigue in a novel, so the tense circumstances surrounding the Lunars and Earth kept me hooked into the story. That mixed with the mystery surrounding Cinder's past meant that I really couldn't put the book down. I can't wait to continue the series and see what twists on more classic fairytales Meyers has in store!

The lunar chronicles are such a comfort series to me. I absolutely adore this series.

These books are a twist on fairytales, and of all the fairytale retellings, these ones take first place.

All the characters have so much depth and they're all so unique from one another.

The chaotic streets of New Beijing are crowded with both humans and androids. People are being ravaged by a horrible plague. A cunning lunar people keep watch from orbit, ready to strike. Nobody is aware that one girl's decision will determine the fate of the planet.

Cinder is a cyborg and a talented mechanic. She has a murky past, is despised by her stepmother, and is held responsible for her stepsister's illness. She is a second-class citizen. But when her life starts to entangle with that of the dashing Prince Kai, she finds herself thrust into the middle of an interplanetary conflict and a forbidden attraction. She must learn mysteries from her history in order to safeguard the future of her world because she is torn between loyalty and betrayal, duty and freedom.

I was anticipating this book because I adore Marissa Meyer's previous works; contrary, I wasn't satisfied. In all honesty, I thought the book was cliched, but it kept my attention and was quite fast paced. The last three chapters were supposedly the "plot twists," but I already had an idea what is going to happen, so they didn't really surprise me. However, I am eager to read the other books because I've heard they're far better than Cinder.

An exciting scifi twist on an age old story. I couldn’t read it fast enough.

this book was really good! i love marissa meyer as always. however i could tell it was one of her earlier works. i was able to guess the spoiler
that cinder is princess selene
literally the first page it was mentioned. but it was so well written, i love kai and cinder, and it ended on a cliffhanger so i guess i’ll have to read the next one!!
