Not my favorite

I didn't love how this book spent half the time on the past, and when it finally did make it to the present.....they weren't doing anything to actually develop their relationship. This didn't really jive for me and made me believe less in the story line. This was a bit of a let down unfortunately.

My very FIRST 5-star review on GoodReads, and just my type of romance - where the plot isn't sacrificed for steam. This is also the first book I've read from Penelope Ward and wow, she can weave a story; I never wanted it to end, sigh.

Highly recommended!

What can i say?
Penelope Ward strikes again with another beautiful second chance story!
Gavin and Raven are so beautiful together but also so much heartbreak that you really feel for them.
Their story of how they was together and everything in between was so amazing and strong that i gives you hope that people really can have their second chance at life.
I loved everything about this book bar a few characters for obvious reasons but not that it took away my love for Gavin. He was dreamy *sigh*
And raven was so sweet and down to earth that Gavin never really stood a chance!
Seriously this book. I couldn't get enough of it, looking for a easy read to fall into? This is the one.

The Day He Came Back reminded my why I love Penelope Ward’s book so much. This story was a beautifully written second chance romance. Raven and Gavin’s story was emotional, it was heartbreaking, it was beautiful and it was everything a second chance should be.

There was an instant connection between Raven and Gavin. They knew they only had the summer, that their relationship was forbidden but that didn’t keep them from spending time together. That is until everything came crashing down around them.

This story is told from both Raven and Gavin’s point of view and is split into two parts. Part One is their initial summer together. We learn the events of what happened during their short lived relationship. Part two is the future. Ten years later. The day Gavin came back.

The emotion in this book got to me. The sacrifices Raven made to protect everything. The slow burn. I LOVED every single moment of this story and of Gavin and Raven’s relationship.

Penelope Ward knocked it out of the park with this book. A MUST READ and one of my favorites by her!

Two people from opposite lifestyles had a connection once they first met. However they will soon learn that a relationship between them is not in the books for them.

Gavin Masterson comes from a family where status is important. His family has plans for his future and if his mother has anything to say about it he will marry someone she will approve of to keep at their social standing.

Raven Donatacci is helping her mom work for the Masterson family when she unexpectedly meets Gavin after he overhears her talking smack about his little brother. That one unexpected encounter was a start of something neither one of them planned. The problem...they comes from two different sides of the track and getting close with the help is something that was unheard of according to his mother.

Gavin and Raven gets to knows each other and it was pleasant to see how their banter and little moments will give you the feels. The challenges and risk just to be around each other made the relationship grow into something more. However, good things does not come easily and Raven is suddenly face with a decision she has to make where it was one not to take lightly. It is what ultimately made or break what was looking to becoming something more.

Years later they meet again under similar circumstances but in an unconventional way sort of speak. The shocking surprise will have you at a lost for words but the chemistry between two people is still present. The truth of what happens years back comes in fruition when Gavin's little brother reveals something and becomes a question on what will come out of the truth. However, times have change and the question if they are with someone comes to mind.

Getting over what has happened in the past is something that they need to face. It is whether or not it is enough regardless of how much time has gone by. This was a sweet read of possibilities that will have you heart hoping.

BEAUTIFUL. SWOONY. UNFORGETTABLE. 5 STARS ⭐️

Oh my heart! The swoony feeling you get with falling in love together for the first time- and oh the angst and heartbreak of not being able to share that love.

Gavin and Raven’s story held my heart from the first chapter until the very end. It starts in the present and goes back to 10 years prior when they first met.
It was beautiful, it was sweet, it was heart shattering. I laughed, I swooned, and heck I cried.
And yes there is a HEA.

This is about love’s true sacrifice and Penelope Ward never ceases to deliver a beautifully written story, one that is so easy to identify with. I’m especially touched with her addressing real life illnesses and diseases like dementia, alcoholism and breast cancer and screening.

The emotion that is poured into her writing bleeds from the pages, it is everything you want. Friendship, family, relationships, characters that you fall in love with so hard you heart breaks for them, and the hope that love finds it’s way back to heart that first made it beat.
The Day He Came Back is everything that makes a romance UNFORGETTABLE!!

This book was amazing! Penelope’s books always give you all the feels. I loved Gavin and felt so bad for his character after what his mom made Raven do to him. Penelope’s books are always put together perfectly and this one was no exception. Raven and Gavin’s story was so interesting to read about and definitely one I’ll reread down the road.

The Day He Came Back is classic Penelope Ward at its finest! This second chance romance is a story of epic proportions filled with all the love, angst, and heartbreak you'd know and love in a Penelope Ward book.

"How many times in life do you have a chance to undo your biggest regret?"

I absolutely adored this story. Raven is the girl on the other side of the bridge. Gavin is the boy in the mansion. Their love was fast and hard and torn down before it was able to grow. Years later, Gavin is back and they have to deal with their tumultuous feelings all over again. With a fantastic cast of side characters, this story had a great build and delicious burn.

"Raven was like a drug. I was fine until I let myself have a little taste of her again."

This one really got to me because I felt like The Day He Came Back had so much heart poured into this story, the words bleeding out and pulling all of my emotions with it.
