I received an eARC from the author. All opinions are my own.

Real rating: 3.5 stars

I have been excited for this book ever since I saw the pitch of it on Instagram. A new adult sci-fi road trip starring a nonbinary lesbian that’s compared to The Mandalorian? Every fiber of my being has been looking forward to this book!

We follow Cas, a butch, nonbinary, lesbian, disabled, autistic bounty hunter who gets by in this fascist galaxy by flying under the radar with their jobs. That is until they’ve met Juno, a trans lesbian influencer who, moments ago shouted their anti-fascist message in front of hoards of galactic police officers, and now needs a ride off planet and is willing to pay. Cue a month-long space-flight with two people who are very different.

Positives

This story is a queer scifi romance, and while I really did like seeing Castor and Juno interact and begin to understand each other, the highlight for me was their discourse and differing viewpoints on the political climate that mirrors our own. I enjoyed having Castor as our narrator.

Negatives

There were some typos throughout the story and a minor continuity error that I mostly disregard because the book is independently published. I do wish that we got some more world building (especially with the duo visiting so many places) and more fleshed out supporting characters.

This is one of the best books I’ve read in so long. Once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. The writing style was so easy to comprehend, the descriptions got me extremely engaged. I absolutely FELL IN LOVE with these characters!!!!

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community and as someone with neurodivergence who struggles with sensory issues, I haven’t never felt as seen in a book as I did with Junker Seven. While I was reading, I was just thinking “hey, I do all this!” I’ve never read a book with this much representation of who I am before and it felt so good to be seen.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is even thinking about reading it. It’s easy to comprehend sci-fi, a slow burn romance, and a true commentary on many things going on in our world today. It also has a silly goldfish ;)

i have so many thoughts and feelings about this and my number one remains: juno marcus is the love of my life.

close second is that castor’s autism and their traits felt so much like parts of mine and as such if anyone doesn’t like this book i WILL be taking it personally

this book took me by the shoulders and shook me repeatedly.

there was so much about this that was hard hitting, especially with the current political climate, and there were parts of this that were hard and painful to read, but above all, this is a story filled to the brim with trans hope and trans resilience
