Docked one star for
Spoilerthe fridging of Duncan's ex-wife.

Still really enjoying this series, despite that.

This is the most serious of the books so far - you really felt the pain and sadness of losing the victim. I didn't care for the 1960s free love subplot. 3.5 stars.

Took a bit to really sink into the mystery of the story, but it was worth it. It's a character-driven narrative, and a difficult murder to solve as it's run on very little evidence, gut instinct, and poetry. But I enjoyed the interwoven stories, the twists and turns, and subtle hints that directed us to a smashing end. I'd try the next book sometime for sure.

well done

I identified the “villain” almost immediately, but still managed to be shocked by the twists & turns in this one. I literally flinched at one death (shocked). The ending tied up all the loose threads nicely (as any good mystery should). I’m interested to see where Kincaid & Gemma wind up next.

took me a while to get into this one, the extra voices took some getting used to, but I really enjoyed the mystery.
