3.5/5 Stars....maybe 4/5 stars

Johanna Lindsay really knows how to weave a wonderful tale. She has a way of writing a story that readers can't help but read and READ until it's done.
I really liked the character of Ranulf who was at first annoying and rude and a huge ass but once Miss Reina came into his life he became a better person and oh man he's a big sweetheart. Raina on the other hand was a tad bit annoying. I'm all for strong-willed females but she didn't know when to put her foot in her mouth. I also felt like she just took things that were thrown at her and didn't really speak her mind on things that needed to be illuminated but spent the time arguing on trivial things. But, she still isn't the worst heroine I've ever met. Their relationship was really sweet!
The reason why it's missing that ONE star is because of Johanna Lindsay spent so much time describing detail in this one. She spent at least 3-4 pages describing a new room or what Reina was wearing etc.

Okay story. Little to no external drama with our characters just them finding each other and falling in love.

memorable characters, delectable plot not to mention laugh out loud funny antics makes this a book an instant classic. It stays on the keeper shelf. Both Ranulf and "the little general" are characters that you will enjoy getting to know. BTW, keep your eye out for Lady Ella!
Thankfully, I own the original release which features Fabio on the cover. All the romances I read back then featured him. Having the original cover art helps me "step back in time". They don't great cover art like they used to *sigh*

DNF at page 127–main characters have such limited interaction. I’m sure that won’t be the case as the book progresses but I don’t want to waste any more time on it

Typical Lindsey historical. Rough but honorable hero and a feisty but beautiful heroine.

Apparently I had already read this book. Once I started I knew the story, but not enough to remember what happened. It was okay.
