Well, it definitely doesn’t qualify as a “thriller” in my opinion, but it is a very well-written and intriguing mystery!

Excellent series! I highly recommend Jorn Lier Horst and the William Wisting series.

I enjoyed this book. William Wisting is a good main character. In regards to his daughter and him working together, it was a little hard to gauge how well they do work together as Line was trying to help protect her friend by withholding details about the case. However, back to William. He seems like a nice guy. Plus, he is a good detective.

The story was fine and the characters were alright. What I mean by this is that I did not react or feel hyped when details of the case were revealed. Additionally, the characters were good about telling the story but they did not grab me and fully engage me. Yet, as I stated previously, I did enjoy this book.

Ordeal by Jørn Lier Horst is a crime mystery set in Norway. It is part of the William Wisting series. It is the 5th or the 10th in the series depends on the edition. (It is a bit confusing.) That is the first book I read in this series and the first book I read by this author but it didn’t bother me at all. It can be read as a standalone. The author gives a brief summary in the beginning of the book so that makes things easier. But if you don't want to get spoilers about the previous books, then don't start from this book!
The story was pretty slow going. The mystery was interesting. I liked the Nordic vibes. The process of the case felt so realistic to me and that's what I liked the most about the book. I think it is because the author is a former Senior Investigating Officer at the Norwegian police force. Not the final chapters, but the final page was so abrupt for me and that affected what I feel about the book a bit. I also wanted to see what happened to a character in the book but no further information was given.
I quite enjoyed the book. 3,5 ⭐️ out of 5.

I've admittedly never read any other novels within this series and picked this for the "Reads the World 2023" challenge. As a one-off read for me, it was fine but nothing to write home about. I honestly couldnt tell you what... The story/crime was all about.

If very particular, orderly, by the books police procedural is your thing - I reckon this would be for you.
