It was a very nice book, you could kind of see the ending coming, but it made it no less fun to read

This was so good! I really enjoyed myself - even more than I did with Daughter of the Pirate King. It had several of the elements I missed a little in the first one so it was just such an enjoyable ride. It was action packed and we finally got to see a lot of new places and get to know her crew more. They were so great and there was a lot more heart and depth in it than I thought it would have. And so much adventure! I loved it.
I will say that the ending was a bit abrupt (which I also thought about the first one). I really like it when things get resolved and then you get a few chapters to hear more about that and see how everything is afterwards. There was none of that here, and I missed that a bit.
I also did not like how horrible Alosa and Riden were at communicating in this book - especially Alosa. She was not very kind to him, and trying to convince him to have sex with you and then get mad at him when he says no? Not a good look. I understand that getting rejected stings, but she was going to use him and not care about his feelings, and she could just not see that at all. That was a bit disappointing. And I just hate it when our main characters don't know how to talk to each other. I understand the tension and they need to have some issues that can be resolved. I just don't like it when it takes an entire book for them to have a proper conversation.
Last thing I will mention is Kearan. The way his weight loss is described was bordering on fat shaming and I did not appreciate that at all. The words that are used ("lazy fat rolls") and the general notion that he was disgusting before and now he is not? Not good.I get that he also stopped drinking and starting talking care of himself more. That's great! But you can explain someones journey in a more respectful way than was done here.
So, a few misses but overall an awesome ending to the story. Plot, pacing, everything just worked really well and I flew through it.
✨"No, Vordan. I could have made you great. You are not the sort of man who could ever achieve greatness on his own. You are ordinary, and you’ve accomplished nothing."✨
✨Each time we come into contact—our hands, our arms, the brush of our knees—the dance grows more exciting, more electric. I am charged like storm clouds—it’s ten times stronger than what I feel when I use my siren abilities. And different. Something decidedly human.✨
✨"I’m here because when I tried to get in that rowboat with my brother, I realized the last thing I wanted was to be away from you." His hand runs up the length of my left arm, which is facing toward the sea. Away from the eyes of the crew. "I’m here for you, Alosa." His fingers flutter against my neck, sending a shiver down my back. "If you can’t tell that, I’m not doing a good job of showing you."✨
✨"You’re beautiful, the most stunning person I’ve ever seen. You’re fearless. You like danger. You like to make your friends laugh and your enemies cower. You have the power to obtain anything you want, yet you’ve worked hard for everything you have. So, no, Alosa, I cannot promise that I won’t ignore orders again. Like I said, when it comes to you, I have no control over my actions."✨
✨Riden is up in the rigging, fiddling with the sails. He’s barefoot, shirtless, and he’s gone a few days without shaving. Holy hell.✨
✨Where before there was just another human, now there is Riden. My Riden. Mine.✨
✨I can barely breathe, and I don’t care one bit. Air isn’t what I need to live. It’s him. It’s always been him.✨

This was a really great finish to a really great series! Only thing which put my rating down a star was that the arrogant charm I came to love from Riden in the first book felt pretty absent. It just had an overall sadder tone to it.

2.5 stars* Fun. Fast. Riden’s too perfect. Alosa’s too perfect. Everyone’s too perfect (or too evil).
