What a sweet book for a new and/or expecting mama to read. It truly felt like reading letters from a friend, and was very uplifting, especially in the late stages of pregnancy. Trigger warning: there are a few chapters about miscarriage.

These letters were so gorgeous, and as a new young mother myself, so many of them had me in my feelings. Can't wait to revisit in a few years, and then a few years after that as my own journey with motherhood continues to evolve.

I am 27 weeks pregnant and loved every single page of this book. Written by a poet, I loved the way the words flowed together and how they sounded when I read out loud, I loved the way the author talks about all the issues, the good and the bad, I loved how it was encouraging and inspirational while still being honest about how hard pregnancy, labor and delivery and motherhood are. I will probably read it again when I am closer to L&D just to psych myself up mentally. Such a good book, will become my go to book for pregnant friends!

I absolutely adore this book. As a new mother and a writer, it's as though Beth Ann Fennelly looked into my soul and poured it onto the pages of this collection of letters. If you are a creative person and a mother, this one is for you.

I rarely finish a book and rush off to order a keeper copy, but that is precisely what I did after finishing Great with Child. This collection of letters contain musings not just on pregnancy and birth, but on motherhood, parenting and marriage.  Beautifully written.  I’ll be gifting this to pregnant friends and relatives.

This was a wonderful read. I want to give this to every woman I love at her baby shower.

This is really lovely and well written, great thoughts on motherhood without being so bogged down in facts or how-to's.

I can't remember where I got a recommendation for this book, only that it was while I was pregnant, people loved it, but I wasn't entirely sure I'd enjoy it due to the epistolary format. Well, it's perfect. I'm curious if I would have been less surprised by some of the realities of delivering a baby or becoming a mom or caring for a newborn if I'd read this first, but at 7 weeks in, it was also enjoyable to read these letters and feel seen and connected to a greater community. You are not alone.
