In 2023 I want to read more manga series- maybe starting 23 series of manga for 2023?
I opted to pick up Hunter x Hunter as I had heard nothing but great things about it and... I think that this was a solid start!
The story follows a young boy- Gon who finds out that despite being told that his father was dead, actually left him at a young age. What's more, his father is a world-renowned Hunter- a person who holds the professional qualifications to hunt rare animals, search for treasure and so on.
Gon opts to take the Hunter Examination- an exam which tests the resolve of prospective Hunters so that they can gain their license and become Hunters.
On the way to the exam and in the exam Gon meets and becomes fast friends with Kurapika- the last remaining member of their tribe who is seeking vengeance for their tribe who were eradicated by the Phantom Troupe. There is also Leorio- a young man who has aspirations of being a physician and is attempting to become a Hunter so that he can pay for medical bills.
That is about where the story ends up at the end of the first volume of the manga. I think that the story is interesting enough to warrant reading more to see what happens next. Admittedly, I did think that the beginning of the story was too quickly paced (in my perspective).
I thought that the art by Yoshihiro Togashi was fantastically well done. It has a nice amount of whimsy to it that just feels nice to read through.
Overall, I am glad that I picked up this series, I can see that there is evidently tons of potential for this series to become out in out amazing. I am interested to see what happens next with it.
