I first heard of Clive Barker when I was young, saw a creepy movie with his name on it. I never really finished the movie because I was interrupted. Or too spooked. Years later, I found his books and bought them, but they've been sitting on my shelf for a decade. Until now.

I just finished reading Books of Blood Volume 1 at 3:29am. Cold feet, heart pounding. I knew this book was going to be good when I first started it because I was hooked from the start. I haven't read adult horror in a long time, it took me awhile to get the visuals in my head. And oh, the horror.

Clive was great at creating vivid stories. From the sight to smell to feel. At times I wondered how he came up with the stories. What disturbing Pandora's Box did he stumble upon, to create these tales?

I gave it five stars. Despite the slow-ish beginnings in each story, when it picked up, oh it picked up. My line-up of the stories from best to least fave would be:
Sex, Death and Starshine>The Book of Blood>The Midnight Meat Train>The Yattering and Jack>Pig Blood Blues>In the Hills, The Cities.
