My 17th book finished in 2023.

Quite fascinating and humerous in parts. It certainly delves into sides of Edward VIII we've never heard or seen.

Chaotic man, Edward was! The Crown didn’t touch on him too much and I didn’t realize how much a profligate he really was. On one hand, it is compelling that he gave up his crown for the LOHL. On the other, all his whining after the fact was WILD. Imagine never needing a job and being wildly wealthy and still acting like your life is terribly hard. Also, it’s so interesting how tightly the media could be controlled in the 30s-50s by the royal family yet since they wouldn’t slander him he just remained wildly beloved externally despite never being covered.

Excellent short book, but Brendon (aka the author) was pretty biased against his subject and nearly anyone in the book. He just seemed like he didn't like Edward VIII in the least. But, do I blame him? Not really. Edward VIII was a whiny, self-obsessed, racist, Nazi sympathizer who would have led Britain to probable destruction. I think he's absolutely fascinating and I plan to read more on him, but I don't personally like him. (Which is basically how I see Henry VIII.)
