Warning: do not read this book in public, unless you can refrain your tears. I couldn't. That book was way too sad, especially knowing where it's headed right from the start. Still, it was a beautiful story about finding yourself, with great relationships (my heart. why.) and a family you want to root for, a book that makes you smile then drive you to tears. I'm mad at you for ending like this, book. WHY.

My best friend calls me a 'pretendwaii' when it comes to romance; the 'waii' just an endearing suffix he adds to any word when he wants to tease me. I'm most definitely not a huge fan of the romance genre but once in a while, I love to read such books when I want to read something light or when a particular book is very popular among my peers. I had heard a lot about Jojo Moyes and wanted to experience her writing first-hand. First of all, let me say, she writes really well. I definitely wasn't bored and could patiently complete the book. Now coming to the story part, I wish it was better because the ending really sucked. Maybe the author thought that her ending was realistic but the message it ended up conveying seemed very wrong. Life is worth living no matter what. I know it is probably easy for me to say it because I'm a healthy individual but instead of focussing on how even disabled people can live a full and contented life, the book seems to be endorsing assisted suicide as an option to escape misery. Also, for the most part, I found the characters selfish and shallow and it was hard to like them too much. Now, this may be because I am not a big fan of this genre. One thing I liked though....I understand love. I also understand when you love someone, you are willing to do a lot for the other person even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone. And I liked the fact that Louisa tried to change, tried to step out and be the person she should have been because Will made her realize that she has a lot of potential. But, I only wish, the ending was better. Not because I hate sad endings but because it would have done the book a lot of good to remain on a positive note instead of dissolving into a medley of grief & sorrow...

I like when an author makes me uncomfortable, because there are not a lot of situations in life (particularly in families) that are tied up nicely with a bow.
There were a lot of decisions to be made here, and while I might not agree with them, I came to understand why each character did what they did. I heard it was a romance book, but for me it was more of a Life book. A friendship book. Respect.
I mean, I still did love the love in it, but there's so much more to it than that.

Interesting to have read this two days before the story broke about the young lady in Oregon who has chosen the date of her death, due to a brain tumor. Very thought provoking book about that subject.

I read this book mainly in anticipation of the movie...and I think I've found one of my favourite reads!

This is heartbreaking, but then there are strokes of such hope, of such life, throughout. Absolutely breathtaking, and the characters are just amazing, so well-sketched. I did picture them in my mind exactly as the movie casting, and side note, this was one of the best book to movie adaptations, staying true to the story all the way. Loved Will and Lou, and yes, fell in love with Will.

Tearjerker, for sure, but the best kind!
