Quite good, but there is an aspect of the ending that felt like a real letdown to me.
Flaivian has a speech impediment, and in my opinion that doesn't need to be "fixed" for readers to know that the couple has a happily ever after.
Also, get ready for some girlbossing, gaslighting, and just a little gatekeeping.

The romance between the main characters too some time to take shape, as in it took time to understand why they are attracted to each other. In the end, I did enjoy the relationship between Flavian and Agnes but I still don't understand what initially attracted them to each other. Balogh has the to write compelling romance in a somewhat detached style that echoes the work and tone of Austen and her contemporaries.

A low drama romance, with very likable protagonists.

I really enjoyed this overall because Agnes and Flavian decided to talk about the things that so easily could have turned into cliche break-up material.

I didn’t really get their early interactions when they were together for the three weeks; the ball made sense, and once they got together, it made sense. Maybe that was intentional to show them not quite understanding why they were drawn together?

So the blurb makes it seem like Flavian,Viscount Ponsonby, is hiding from his former fiancée and runs into Agnes Keeping. She agrees to marry to him because he sweeps her off her feet and then she finds out that Flavian only married her to save himself from his fiancée, so Agnes runs away. Meanwhile Falvian has found himself in love with Agnes and has decided not to let her go. This is not at all what happens.

Agnes is a sensible women. She married young and her husband has been dead for a number of years. She does not want passion. Because she is particular friends with Sophie who is married to Viscount Darleigh [b:The Arrangement|15797358|The Arrangement (The Survivors' Club #2)|Mary Balogh|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1364250976s/15797358.jpg|19754340], Agnes spends a lot of time at their estate. While Flavian is visiting for an autumn ball is when they meet and Agnes is immediately attracted. Six months later the Survivor's Club ends up meeting at Viscount Darleigh's estate and the two find that the attraction is mutual. They marry and go to London, where the conniving fiancée makes an appearance.

I ended up liking this book so much better after reading despite the not accurate summary. 3.89 stars is actually accurate but I will round up.

I would have really liked to see Velma revealed as the manipulative social-climbing bitch that she was and to be scorned from society.

Update: My opinion still holds about Velma. I hate it when characters like this aren't properly punished by fate.
