Compelling start to a fantasy series - but alas, Miller died shortly after this came out, and though a sequel (which would conclude the story) was apparently written and on the verge of publication, the publishers passed on it and it's been in limbo ever since. i don't know... i enjoyed the writing and how there were so many characters which were all connected to each other. the concept is really cool!

however, i kinda had to force myself to finish it and i got a bit bored towards the end.
two of the male characters are portrayed as very misogynistic and degrading towards women in the beginning (which bothered me a lot because it didn't even add anything to the story) and then suddenly they weren't anymore? just... why give them those horrible character traits if you don't stick to them?? what's the point
and the ending?? why

i wouldn't necessarily recommend it
