Wow! This book blew me away!
Tarryn Fisher introduces us to Thursday, a woman who is married to Seth, a polygamist. But unlike other types of polygamists, he keeps his wives separate. He follows a weekly schedule to see all 3 of them and balances his life around it. None of the women know anything about each other, and it's Seth way of keeping their relationships more private and for them to each feel special. Thursday tends to get jealous thinking of the other 2 wives and always makes the most of her time with Seth because she wants to be the best for him. While still struggling with a past miscarriage, her jealousy and curiosity get the better of her and she starts trying to learn more about the other 2 wives.
As she discovers their identities, she thinks she stumbled across a secret about her husband that changes what she thinks she knows about him. She continues digging deeper to discover the truth, or so she thinks.
This novel was well written and kept me up all night wanting to know what was happening next, right when I thought I had it figured out, a new twist popped up. This was one of the most fascinating books I've read so far this year!

Book 5 completed for Contemporary-a-thon

I really wanted to like this. The first 40% of this book was really interesting. It was very fast paced and I was wanting to know more. But it definitely lagged in the middle and the ending was really disappointing. The author took the lazy way out to resolve everything. It's definitely a low 3 star rating, which is a bummer because I was definitely anticipating it.

CW: Assault, domestic abuse, loss of a pregnancy, abusive relationships, religion

RATNG: 2.5 STARS
2020; Graydon House/HarperCollins

The Wives started out so good. I was hooked and wanted to know more and was hoping for something different. Careful, what you ask for. It ended differently than I thought it would, but it just wasn't exciting. The way the novel started I was expecting something good, and it ended very anticlimactic.
SpoilerI am not a fan of "it was all a dream" or due to mental illness.

The Wives had its’ hooks in me up until the last 15 minutes. I was getting excited over dirty dishes simply because it meant I could sneak in a few extra minutes of this audiobook. Not a lot of audiobooks do that for me so kudos to the narrator and the author for telling the story so well.

That ending tho. I’m someone who has to reflect after finishing a book in order to see the big picture so at first I thought my disappointment with the ending was simply that it didn't play out the way I wanted. The more I sat and reflected, the more I realized that the ending leaves way too many loose ends to make sense.

Is a great book with an awful ending worth it? I don’t know, but I look forward to reading more from this author (and listening more to this narrator).
