Audrey Camherst is the granddaughter of Isabella Camherst (Lady Trent) and have chosen to follow in her footsteps. When she gets an offer by Lord Gleinheigh to translate some clay tablets that reveal the origin of the draconic civilization she's very excited. But after a while she gets hesitant about the accuracy in some parts and together with her friend Kudshayn she must figure out what it is - before it's too late.

Very nice being back in Marie Brennan's alternative Victorian fantasy world! It's not as adventurous as earlier books and here's Lady Trent only a side character, but I still enjoy it just the same! It feels a bit slow at times, but the later part of the book certainly makes up for it. I don't know if Brennan is finished with this series, but if there's another book in the future I will definitely read it!

Audrey is the grand daughter of Lady Trent, trail blazing scientist and discoverer of Draconians. Audrey feels the weight of her family's scientific legacy and signs up to translate a fresh discovery of clay tablets.

This has a distinct voice, separate from Lady Trent and is told through various diary entries, reports and news paper articles which works very well. A nice close out to the whole story and the time jump gave the author time to puzzle out some of the longer term political implications of the Draconians.
