Finished this book in one sitting because I could not put it down.

Of all my reviews this one will be the most biased so please take this for a huge grain of salt. I do still believe that my his may actually do more than simply inform of this being an incredible read, because it is that with all of the following bias removed:

The way this book and Macy, our main character, frames and portrays grief, and by extension the fear of losing even just one more great love, is so viscerally, painfully, vulnerable in a way that will linger with me for a long time.

It didn’t and won’t change my life in major ways but it put to words what hyper specific, lonely and painful thoughts and experience with love & loss is for myself. In many ways that affirmed, validated and addressed such complicated feelings that those who know, will immediately recognize. And if you didn’t know, you will have understood the depths of it all.

Above all, this was a beautiful story of a love that survived above it all, even after a long time and great many painful experiences passed.

It gave me the courage to face my own grief in a way I wasn’t sure I was ready for, and gave me hope that living is always better than surviving. Love & other words does just that.

The characters feel developed and had distinct personalities and agency. Really touching relationships at the center and with side characters. A little annoyed with the ending twist but overall a good read. Loved the honest and upfront nature of the characters discussing their emotions and thoughts. Would definitely read again.

Loved this book!! Kind of reminded me of the people we meet on vacation by emily henry in the aspect of soulmates and lacking communication being a big deal, which is frustrating to read about but I understood the lack of communication in this story so much more! I also just finished The Unhoneymooners (also by Christina Lauren) and Love and Other Words is SO much better!!! It’s got wonderful characters and a great hook with a wonderful ending as well. The middle was kind of slow though so it was hard to get through but worth it. VERY sad! Lots of trigger warnings. Cute story/book though.
