Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The character development, the plot, etc. It's a romance so of course we know how it's going to end, but even so, I was fighting for them to end up together and find out what was keeping them apart.

Uhhhh….okay. Um, it was fine. The first part when they are younger is incredibly endearing and I really enjoyed it. How much can you say to someone in between the sentences? I was kinda put off by them in the present time, everything happened (and didn’t happen) way too fast. Elliot always seemed pushy, even if he wasn’t trying to be and Macy felt like she would just go along with whatever Elliot wanted… eventually. I didn’t care for the twist, the kind of ‘drama’ it added did not have time to breathe at all. The last few chapters in present day seemed thrown together. But I did read the majority of it (like 85% of it) in a day, I was entertained and it wasn’t too painful.

This book broke my heart into pieces and then stitched them together again. This love story was funny, heart-wrenching, and beautiful. I’ve read my fair share of romance books, but I think this is the first story where the main characters EARNED THEIR HAPPY ENDING.
It’s strange, because I know I’m going to enjoy this story better on a reread. In my first read, I preferred reading the flashbacks because I was desperately clinging to Elliot and Macy’s love story in the making, searching for any clues as to what could’ve happened. Once I found out what happened, I realized I missed so many of the signs in the present tense point of views!

Elliot, by the way, is by far my FAVORITE romance MMC (well, okay, maybe tied with Miles from ‘Funny Story’ by EmHen). He was sooo precious, an absolute lover boy. This story was written so perfectly that I fell in love right along with Macy, and the heartbreak of their first ending made me sob in a manner that would be embarrassing if anybody else were around…! I love him so much, and I loved Macy too. It’s easy to enjoy a love story when you can love flawed characters, understand their reasoning, and empathize with them.

One thing I do want to mention that is kind of a major spoiler (so skip this paragraph if you want to read the book spoiler free), but I HATED that Elliot was literally raped and it wasn’t mentioned much beyond that. Like…he was literally raped. It was horrible and I hate that it was brushed over, never really talked about again. She barely had sympathy for him over that. Idk. It was weird. That is my one and only singular gripe about this book though, so.

Ugh. I need a long nap to recover from this. And by long nap I mean a good nights sleep. I have a strange feeling, this story will be my new Roman Empire.

I laughed, I cried, I kicked my feet... I read this book within 24hours. Elliot is my first book crush. I felt the romance was very elegantly done, felt very realistic and not "cheap". However, there were some things that did not click for me. And the elephant in the room:  in the book there is esentially a SA of a male that is just brushed off :-/. Would appreciate to have it discussed/acknowledged.

It was an intriguing read. I mostly enjoyed it. What I didn’t enjoy was killing off the dad and Elliot being raped by a girl at a party never being called out as sexual assault. It was only ever addressed as cheating even after he clearly explained this girl had taken advantage of him when he was drunk. That felt so gross to me. If the situation had just been clearly addressed as what it was then I would have rated this book a 4.5. Just as much care should have been given to Elliot as was given to Macy and would have been if the situations were reversed.
