I absolutely loved this sequel more than the first installment, Truthwitch. If I can assemble my thoughts in order, I'll attempt to write a proper review.

good god is there supposed to be an attempt at trans representation in this story??? i’m so disturbed by how the author crafted Cam’s story.

im not even sure what went down in this story. i’ve got to stop reading YA because i don’t find it enjoyable anymore.

I was really swept up in this story (pun intended)!

I just love how people will talk about one person they know ends up also being connected to someone else. I didn't want to put my book down last night, but I had to because of work.

While I didn’t always care much for Vivia’s POV I and glad we understand her more and [how her relationship with Merik changed].

It was just so good! Also I totally called a very specific thing and I can't wait to see what happens next!

I love the magic system in this series, but my god the writing style is just so dense. I STRUGGLE with it and fail to see how it’s marketed as YA - it honestly reads as dense adult fantasy!

I found Truthwitch insufferably boring and Safi to be really selfish, but I enjoyed this instalment more. It seems like many reviewers hate that Safi and Iseult were separated here, but I personally enjoyed following the diverging storylines! They’re coming into their own as women and witches, and the separate arcs also allowed room for more political intrigue.

Also, I finally see why people are hyping up the eventual slowburn enemies to lovers romance with the Bloodwitch

The second half was MUCH better. The climax was gripping and satisfying. Just wish I got more Auduen and Isuelt.

This book had it ups and downs for me. At some points, it was giving me 5 star content and then others I was bored out of my mind. I think the good out weighed the bad on this one, and overall I enjoyed my time reading this.

Closer to 3.5. The first 200ish pages of this are incredibly slow and slightly boring as it’s all travel and no one is actually discovering anything or doing anything at all to move the plot forward. The last bit of it is a little more exciting as things are actually happening, but I still struggled to get through it as so much was going on since we follow so many perspectives and I felt like I couldn’t get enough information about anyone because we were never with them for long.

Not sure what happened with this book - perhaps it was me and my reading mood or the book - but this felt unfocused and scattered. We didn't get much of the Safi and Iseult dynamic which made Book 1 so compelling. New POVs and new focus made this book larger in scope but giving them all almost equal time meant that none of the POVs got enough time.

The audio was good and the writing itself is pretty solid. So even though I didn't enjoy this I am giving this 2 stars - it was ok. I would have DNF'd this but I understand that Book 3 is one of the stronger entries and this is just a blip in the journey. It feels like a placeholder book - as the author resets the characters - so I can see the next few entries being better.

Let's see - I will be continuing with the novella next though.
