I actually found this book pretty enjoyable and somewhat realistic. From the way the author discusses ghosting. To hook ups and the the whole take on app dating with Matchmaker, Crush and Swype. I also really liked Samson, the male lead. He sounded like an absolute sweetheart.

The author went beyond by raising the issue of CTE that players tend to undergo. She also albeit briefly, raised the #MeToo movement.

These were the factors that made this an enjoyable read.

Pretty cliche. Two people hooked up on a dating app and it just happened to be they were competitors in the dating app scene. Long story short they end up together. Ugh not portraying real life at all!

I didn't know how much I wanted to read a book that involved a dating app until now. Rhi is a boss lady introvert who believes she has to make it to the top to get revenge for her shitty past. Samson is a conflicted ex-pro football player trying to create a different identity for himself. Unexpected discussions of CTE, buy didnt feel out of place. I only wish Rhi and Samson talked more about their problems instead of dousing the flames of stress and seriousness with sexy times. Side character development had me craving for sequels from EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM; Dean (and Miley) & Harris, Katrina, Lakshmi & Tina (

The book was a slow burn second chance romance which is a nice change of pace from other books I’ve read. I really enjoyed the different cast of characters and highlighting their skin ties, hair textures, etc. even when talking about makeup. That helped connect me a little to the characters.
I didn’t enjoy the skittish nature of Rhiannon, or she waffles and jumps to conclusions for the very people that have endless patience for her. Like how did she go from being so determined to manipulate and use Samson, go to his place, and then completely 180 and leave without even asking what she wanted to ask? The whole book setup that she’s a nobody can stop me type character, and at that point she hadn’t actually forgiven Samson at all. So… huh?
At some point, the side characters were more “I’m perfect but here’s a notch in my armor that makes me more relatable” and she was the “I’m flawed but ultimately can do no wrong” character and then the story just wraps up from there with a “I’ll try harder”. Try harder in the pages of the book! Do better! It took me way longer than it should have for me to complete the book.
That being said, I did really appreciate the author for subtly highlighting #MeToo and dropping very valuable relationship advice. I just wish that the other characters would grow some steel and hold her feet to the fire when she messed up - someone *other than* her mom who wasn’t physically there. The author was able to put a lot into words that I think a lot of single people - women specifically - feel when attempting to date.
3/5 writing was great, medium level spice, and the storyline was nice but would’ve loved to see a bit more accountability for Rhi to make sure not everyone just sees her as a perfect can’t-do-any-wrong character. They, in turn, seem like pushovers.

I liked both main characters, liked their interactions, and their resolution. Fascinating, if depressing, look at the costs to the health of pro football players.

A sweet, enjoyable 2nd chance romance.

Cover: On trend.
Narrators: Good. He was a touch overly dramatic, but it wasn't unbearable.
Hogwarts Sorting Hat: The classic reverse S/H couple. She is definitely a Slytherin and he is a Hufflepuff.

Themes: tech, online dating services, traumatic football head injuries, LA
