Stellar writing, with a twisting plot that had me constantly guessing. Patty and Rachel were highly believable characters. Maynard's diction is smooth and effortless, and envelops the reader in the story completely.

I was left with the hope that I never hear "My Sharona" again. I will forever associate it with the Sunset Strangler.

The beginning of this book is slow, and the WHOLE TIME I was CONVINCED I knew what the plot twist was going to be. In short — I didn’t! It’s TOTALLY worth the read!!!

Well written. Although the childhood of the 2 sisters was one that was filled with neglect by their parents, I enjoyed seeing how they 'made their own fun'...... watching TV through their neighbors' windows, but also felt the angst of any pre-teen who did not 'fit in'.....the last part of the book was totally gripping, a real page turner that as much as I wanted to find out how it all turned out, I didn't want it to end.

This was just an OK book for me. I did enjoy the pre-teen and teenage Rachel….she was probably my favorite part of the book. The serial killer mystery part was more of a side story while Rachel went through adolescence. Maybe that’s why this was just OK for me…..I was expecting the murder mystery to take more of a front seat in the storyline. Plus, once the final section of the book started, you knew exactly how it was going to end so there weren’t any surprises. Overall it was a good book, just not a favorite.

Really, I'd give this 3.5 stars. It was definitely a quick, easy read--- and I liked that it really wasn't a murder mystery as much as a coming of age story about two sisters, adolescence and a semi-absentee dad. I felt the beginning was strong, especially in regards to the sisters' relationship. But it began to lag in the middle--- right around Rachel's "prank". And then the ending felt rushed. I wanted more from the ending, but overall, it was enjoyable.
