After all those battles, after all those who "would-be/should-be king" died, the one who ends up in the throne is a character that's rarely shown. I, therefore, conclude Game of Thrones' plot was based on King John.

Book 24 of 2023: King John by William Shakespeare

Not my favorite play by Shakespeare, but I have enjoyed reading it with my Shakespeare group, discussing the historical context. I find it interesting that when these plays were originally performed, the crowd enjoyed the historical plays more; in contrast to today where most people know the tragedies and a few comedies, but have never heard of the historical plays.

Batshit Shakespeare that gets under less credit than it deserves. Yeah, it's bad. But it's also unhinged and that's beautiful.

There are compelling scenes within this supposed worst play by Shakespeare. The fickleness of monarchies is on full display, and the bastard sure is snarky.

this is one of them that Nobody Reads & more or less with good reason. I dedicate this to dorothy Wordsworth who prompted me

It's interesting to see him turn & toy with things that become Actual Nice Work later on,, Lear's madness prefigured in Constance's 'I am not mad, I would to heaven I were! / For then 'tis like I should forget myself' & 'grief is proud and makes his owner stoop', 'l,,, hamlet's 'too much i'th'sun' in Dauphin Lewis' ''being but the shadow of your son, / becomes a sun and makes your son a shadow'.,,, these go on. I beg cold comfort there

I didn't find this play to be all that interesting.
