The main reason I picked up this book was I had limited knowledge of Chinese history and wanted to expand it. Its an exceptional long and detailed account of trials and tribulations of 3 generations of Chinese woman. It's absolutely heartening to read about the oppression faced by the Chinese population during the regime of Chairman Moa. This is a long read but it surely made me count my blessings on being born as an urban educated Indian woman. If you have no idea about China and its history just pick this book.

Wow. This book has a lot of traumatising stories. But it dragged. It was interesting to learn about this time in history though. 3 stars
