My cousin, who's at least 6 years older than me, used to bring this book up and ask if I remembered it. "You know? The bear who lost his button?" No I did not remember it but I think I know now why he did. I don't remember a lot of books I read as a little itty bitty having Black characters in it. My mom has always been very Black Power so I can understand why my cousin might've remembered it. I flipped the page and saw her and immediately got emotional!

Got this read to me too :) I got a special version that had letters written from Don to Anise which was pretty coo, and early concept art!

Saw this among a pile of old things at my ex's house so I read it. I mean, it's sweet. Teddy bear goes searching for a missing button, fails, but little girl buys him anyway. They become friends and live happily ever after. A few parts seemed pointless to me. He didn't have to find his button. And he didn't have to realize that all he wanted was a friend all along. It's a children's book; everyone wants friends.
Still, cute book. Nice read.

Written in '68, this is a beautiful little picturebook that tells the story of a little teddy bear who is wanted by nobody. It has simple, repetitive lines as Corduroy, having the desire to be needed, begins to explore the store in order to find his missing button. There are some lovely double-page spreads from Freeman but, for me, it was the rhythm and repetition of the words that make the read so enjoyable. On saying this, the scene in which the little girl runs off with Corduroy without wanting or needing the box that he came in which touched my heart and is something that I hope all young listeners/readers would associate with.
