I can appreciate the creativity of writing a novel in verse but this was not for me. I found the format to be confusing and choppy for no reason and the storyline and characters felt flat to me because of it. I was just bored the entire time.
Maybe I would have like this more if it was written in a different way because I do think the story of an abused “monster” who falls in love with a man and discovers himself is worth reading, but at the same time I think some of this novel’s charm is in the way it’s written so I don’t know. I really wanted to like this because I love queer myth retellings but the writing just didn’t work for me. It’s hard for me to like poetry and this didn’t even have the beautiful language I tend to like so I didn’t really enjoy it sadly.

3.5…really well written but some poetry resonates and some doesn’t. Didn’t really hit for me but I can understand why it does for a lot of people
