I loved anne carson's essays so I kind of felt I'd enjoy this and i wasn't wrong. at some points i felt like i was losing the thread of the poem but in reality i think it was meant to be like that in a way? I loved it a lot. I just have absolutely no reasoning on why 🤷♀️

what a strange book. the writing was beautiful, yes, and the format interesting but the story was not nearly as devastating as i'd been told. in fact i didn't really feel much for any of the characters.
it's a shame the story takes so little from the myth except for names. maybe i'm not familiar enough with this particular myth and i've missed some references but i would've liked a more poignant ending, i was expecting more.

it was beautiful and definitely evokes such deeply sad emotions that i was able to put myself in the position of geryon feeling the pain that accompanies love. however, i felt unsatisfied with the ending, which is why i rated it as such. still, worth the read for the beautiful writing.
