I really enjoyed the overall story, its form, and the introduction. However, even though there were helpful explanatory notes, the amount of names of both people and places in this epic often had me confused and slowed the story down for me.

To put it crudely and simplistically, it's about a bunch of red blooded idealized frat boys going on a magical journey with the support of their female companions. There are a number of genuinely engaging and thrilling passages interspersed throughout a text that often becomes bogged down by brief yet numerically excessive descriptions of geography or lineages. There are also many references to other myths which either require a previous familiarity or a good copy of the text with explanatory notes. I would definitely only recommend this to someone who already has an appreciation of Homer and Greek myth in general. For the average reader this is not a book that you should read before other related titles. It is definitely enjoyable however, and is most certainly culturally relevant.

I already know the story, having read several versions (and picked bits of it up from general knowledge), but I liked this version.
