I enjoyed reading about Keiko but found this generally depressing. No one understands her, everyone is trying to fix her. I can’t think of a way to describe Shiraha except an incel and was very happy when she cut ties with him. I just hope she can be more appreciated in her next convenience store and meet someone like her who won’t judge her so harshly.

I think people who find this book funny are rather missing the point, and don't seem to understand that Keiko is being literal when she (for example)
Spoileroffhandedly thinks about killing her sister's baby.
A lot of people reviewing this book seem to do what Keiko's friends and family do: think she's just kind of an odd duck and they don't really believe she means the things she says, so they interpret her thoughts as "dark humor" rather than literal.

That being said, it was a quick and mildly enjoyable read.
SpoilerShiraha's character did make me worried we would see some incel-inspired violence, but fortunately that does not happen.

not everyone wants to get an adult job, get married and have kids

some of us want to work at a convenience store, be single and not have kids

that's it you have read the book!
