What cruel and unusual punishment, Maureen Johnson, to end the book like that! I don’t even have the second one!

Got a lot better as it went on! I was initially very annoyed with the main character, but she definitely grew on me.

2nd Reading Update: This book is cool because it isn't even an inch less fun upon a 2nd reading. That *may* be due to the fact that I remembered absolutely nothing about it even though it's only been 9 months since I read it the first time. Still. Fun series. This time around I made a list of all of the questions I have that are unanswered. By the time I reach the finale I'll have found lots of plots holes/dropped threads but I hope I'm wrong.

1st Reading: Me after finishing Truly Devious:

description
What the heck was that ending?! Honestly. WHAT DID I JUST READ? Did I miss something? I'm usually a smart cookie but I honestly didn't put any of the pieces together here. I mean. I loved it. It was a ton of fun. There were a couple of cheap plot devices but I can live with that. The characters are great. I adore a good boarding school and I'm a total sucker for a good murder mystery. This one is just in my wheelhouse. But WHAT? That ending??? I'd be so upset if I read this when it was first published and had to wait a year for the sequel to get answers. Was ANYTHING even resolved in this book?? Snaps to Maureen Johnson for weaving such casual diversity throughout this novel. So well done. Is this book perfect? No. Is it fun? Absolutely!

The audiobook narration here is excellent. Also! Maureen Johnson's Pinterest has some great whodunit photos of the 1936 suspects.

I enjoyed this! It's a nice, quick read. I did not enjoy that cliffhanger though
