Fron all the books in this series that i had listen, i still love Reid story the best. Now in Halton, it falls short. To be honest, the theme of this books is similar to Bently. I have really hard time connecting with Halton. In my mind he is sort of baby.

He feels sorry for himself way too much. I am bit disappointed that Miss Moreland can not bring more intense and complex character into Halton.

Overall i do not love this book nor hate it either.

Halton oh Halton, you're breaking my heart. Once again Melanie Moreland wrote another beautiful story which is emotion-charged with a wonderful father figure, angsty as heck Hero and a strong big-hearted heroine. I reached for the tissue box time and time again, my heart aches for Halton as a little boy and as a mother, I just want to give him huge hugs! I adore Rene, Halton's assistant slash father-figure, he's funny and ever so wise. I'm so in love with Fiona aka Fee, such a strong woman and I love how forgiving she was. Her capacity to forgive and love knows no bounds. Melanie Moreland always write such compelling characters but none so more than our 2 main characters. I'm so glad they found their Happily Ever After.

I'm so addicted to the Vested Interest series. Halton's did not disappoint.

I enjoyed getting to know Halton, and his relationship with the BAM boys, and liked meeting Fee and her connection with Halton. The story overall was great, Fee approaches Halton for help during her divorce, it just so happens her soon to be ex husband happens to be a rival lawyer that Halton is not a fan of.

I enjoyed the story and the build up, I liked seeing Fee climb out of her shell and start to trust Halton after being in a toxic marriage. Enjoyed their banter and their relationship.

I gave it a four, only because I feel like there were some loops that were never closed. Halton's ex makes a scene when he breaks up with her at the start of the book, and she even gets mentioned later that she made a scene at the office to talk to him and Fee puts her in her place, but it felt like that arc was left a bit open as if she was going to come back and cause trouble. There was another scene at at bar where Halton dissuades a guy from talking to Fee, but the way the guy was written, it seemed (to me anyway) that he was more then just a guy trying to hit on Fee, so I kept waiting for him to pop up, he never did. But I also think I've read way to much romance and read to much into these small moments.

Other then that I very much enjoyed Halton and Fee's story.

Gorgeous. I am so addicted to this series.

What I didn't particularly like?
Slut-shaming at the very beginning of the novel. Done by the hero. And yep of course, he slut-shames his soon-to-be-ex-hook up.

Other than that, I can only say that this series is pretty cool in many ways.
This time the heroine doesn't really have her life together. She is in the process of divorcing her husband. Or he is in the process of divorcing her cause she couldn't get it together to leave him first even though he is a grade A ass. And I guess I am a cold-hearted bitch for saying that... but she really is spineless up until to the beginning of this novel. Her husband kept her from everything, from making friends, from getting a degree, from getting a freaking job, from eating (!).
And I know, I know, being cold again here, but she was with him for about what seven years?? How?????

Now, again, let me make it clear that I liked this one but wow, she really got to me... so yeah I had my problems with her but I also liked the dynamics between the main protagonists. She wasn't spineless after her husband decided to leave her, in fact that's when she started to fight and I appreciate and admire that

i liked this book enough until like the 80% mark, but after that, i totally loathed it and wanted to kill someone.

i enjoyed the continuous drama of out-lawyering scott. it made the plot roll. and i loved rene, he was so chill. and i did enjoy the cameos of the other characters. the epilogue was also really cute with storytime. and i actually was pretty okay with the female lead in this book. she wasnt just ehhhh and she wasnt just the same heroine but with a different name. she was competent as a personal assistant and was a good person with morals. and i actually did like halton for the first parts of the book.

but no.

the author had to put useless drama at the end. there was enough drama with scott and the drugs. but noooo. there had to be USELESS drama with the love plot.

halton had to be a huge ass and go “i cant love anyone you idiot so go away. are you stupid? you’re a whore”. just because she gave him a key to her house. A KEY TO HER HOUSE!
but hmmm? who was the one constantly crossing the boundaries that he made? who was excessively breaking his own rules bc he “couldnt help himself”? who was the one that was basically leading her on and giving her the wrong idea bc he couldnt ABIDE BY HIS OWN WORDS? IT SURE AS HELL WASNT FEE!

the butthead goes on to horribly mess up the relationship that HE encouraged bc he had a crappy childhood and couldnt “love anyone”. he was just “protecting her from himself”. wow. amazing. what an excuse.

and when fiona is finally MOVING ON, this bitch is all “i’ve been stupid. plz forgive me. i didnt mean to call you a whore. you are my forever.”

halton. my man. you’re a bastard.

i really hated that drama. we all know that they’re gonna end up together anyway. this is a romance novel. so it didnt add to the plot. there was enough drama with the whole divorce thing. and scott’s death. SO WHY DID YOU ADD THAT THERE AUTHOR? IT WAS UTTERLY DISGUSTING AND MADE ME HATE HALTON WITH A PASSION!

if that part didnt exist, this would he an okay book with decent main characters. but it did. and the male lead is now a POS.

thank you for coming to my ted talk.
