my thoughts of this book are pretty similar to the lightning thief, though i love tyson more than any other character so far & enjoyed learning new things about clarisse. my only complaint, though, is that percy’s starting to seem more two-dimensional than in the lightning thief. in this book, it was implied that he’ll have to overcome a fatal flaw in the future, but for now, he seems a bit more mary-sue-ish than before. i liked in the lightning thief how much anger he had and how he was mean to ares despite the repercussions he might face, but he seems to control his anger better in sea of monsters, so we’ll see where that goes in the next books. as for the content warning, there are no racial slurs in the book, but there’s no option for general slurs. the r-word is said twice in the very beginning of the book during the dodgeball scene.
