I appreciate this so much more now than when it was assigned to me in high school. As much a reminder of the socialist/communist trap, but more generally of the dangers of totalitarianism and our susceptibility to manipulation by way of promising ‘We the People’ (ahem: animals) what we want to hear — and, of course, our unwillingness to think  critically or question the  motives of anyone willing to pander to our desires. Can see some definite crossover themes between Animal Farm and 1984 — information warfare/who controls the past controls the future/hierarchy/power/hypocrisy. Orwell delivers in his uniquely bleak way.

What I’ve learned is that man = pig, which is something I already knew. Verrrrry interesting reading this with a social work degree. They say this is based on communism but to me it feels like more a warning about being a blind follower.

I have never finished a book before and had chills. Actual chills. And almost a tear. Oh my gosh Orwell, nail on the head and a punch in the heart. Oh my sweet animal friends.
