A man wakes on the beach- no memories. He sees a trailer with Maine plates - goes in and passes out.
Lily wakes up- no word from her boyfriend Jack. He fails to show for their plans. After a year and a half of dating, Lily knows something is wrong. She finds his truck at the beach - but no sign of Jack.
The man wakes in Maine, a phone number running through his mind. He dials it. And so it begins.
Maya, Jack's stepsister takes him home, determined to help Jack recover his memories.
What I loved best - Maya's craziness isn't held back. That ending had me gasping out loud.
Fast paced. Excellent characters. Predictable but holy crap. Read it.

I started You Will Remember Me two evenings ago, and devoured it from beginning to end. As you know, dear readers, I’ve been trying my best to get further and further into the psychological thriller genre. It has been a delight to slowly uncover new stories, and wind my way through the twisty minds of the authors who pen them. I’m happy to report that Hannah Mary McKinnon has written a book that is a quick and enjoyable read.

The characters here aren’t necessarily likable, but I did find them to be realistic which is almost more important. As a character, Ash became more and more gruff as the story progressed. His frustration made sense to me, as he was basically relying on everyone around him to tell him what was real. Which made Maya’s character even more terrifying, as she was the one responsible for taking care of Ash as he was recovering. It begs the question as to whether you can ever truly trust your memories. Whether they are the ones that you think you remember on your own, or they are the ones that others have fed you. The dynamic between Ash and Maya was uncomfortable, but in a way that made this story compulsively readable.

Now, I will say honestly that I did mostly figure out the ending before it arrived. This is the type of story that hints rather heavily at what is to come, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Instead, McKinnon uses this as a way to keep the reader engaged so see if they’re being tempted off course. As Ash regains his memories, bit by bit, the reader is treated to more pieces of the puzzle. I had a lot of fun slowly putting them together to see if I actually knew what the picture would ultimately be. You may be just as surprised as I was, that what emerges is not quite what you expected it to be.

I can attest that this is one of those books that you will absolutely fly through. The quick moving plot will pull you in, and tug you along without mercy. Trust me when I say that you probably don’t want to start this right before bed, or you may not sleep at all. You Will Remember Me is a solid, if not completely standout, entry in the psychological thriller genre. I look forward to what Hannah Mary McKinnon has in store next!

How would you feel if you woke up on a beach, not remembering what happened to you or who you are? In You Will Remember Me, this is what happens to our main character. This book was so twisty, I loved the multiple POVs and how everything is connected in the end.

Years ago, Ash leaves Maine after getting involved in a murder investigation and is never seen or heard of again. Lily's boyfriend, Jack goes missing after a night swim in Maryland. This seems strange considering he's a strong swimmer. Lilly makes it her mission to find out what happened to the love of her life. With determination, she manages to find a connection as to what may have happened to Jack...a connection in Maine.

The ending of this book wrecked me, we read this for our book club and everyone was shocked by the twist at the end. I'm always a fan of "happy" endings so when a book doesn't have one it leaves me ruined. I immediately wanted more and would love to see these characters once again.

Where was the twist? Where was the suspense? Added a star because I wanted to know how it ended and therefore stayed til the bitter end. But I did skim parts and skip to next chapters at times

This was a fun twisty thriller. While there were some aspects that were predictable, I definitely didn’t see the ending coming.

Well-written and enjoyed the book but had it figured out at about 35%.  Ending was also unsatisfactory

This was so thrilling and enjoyable to read aloud to my husband at bedtime. Let’s just say we fell prey to staying up past our bedtime in order to read “just one more chapter” and paying the price the next day. Now, that is a sign of a good book in our opinion. But with that said . . .

Maybe I myself have a rather dark mind but from very early on I predicted the entire outcome—even to my husband’s amazement. At times my husband and I remarked about the predictability, that some of the coincidences came off as contrived, with some scenarios seeming farfetched. But, as far as clever storytelling, creepiness—borderline disturbing—factor, and entertainment value, this is a solid four-star book! And though we predicted nearly every twist and turn, we still had great fun seeing if we were right. So overall, we were not disenchanted in reading this story. I think HMM writes with intention, and, therefore, certain little nuggets are laid out for only the most perceptive to collect and gather along the way.

Also, this was definitely an alternating POV done right—I’m often turned off by some authors’ attempts at this, but not here. I’ll always be a loyal HMM reader because it’s just so fun to go on these dark, twisty rides with her. And part of the fun is seeing if we can think like she thinks, and more often than not it feels kind of like a reward, rather than a letdown, when we’re right. But that ending, though. Dang. We were really hoping for a different outcome but feared it would turn out the way it did.

Come find out what happens when Jack loses his memory and goes in search of answers. Is he placing himself further from peril or closer? Whom can he trust? Would you entrust others with YOUR memories?
