This was my first Tessa Bailey book and I was excited to read because I love a good murder mystery and some smut. This definitely felt short for me. The smut was cringe at times and felt forced. Wasn’t crazy about characters either. Wish it focused more on the murder plot it felt rushed at the end.

Few authors right sexy fun romances as well as Tessa Bailey and in this book she adds to the fun by throwing a murder into the mix.

It’s a good read but compared to other Tessa books I read it was only okay. The two main characters seemed almost cartoonish at times.

The  cover is also a disconnect- she’s not a blonde in the book.

Tessa Bailey's books either work for me or not. This one was really great. Lighthearted, entertaining, sweet and steamy. Just what I needed. Great summer read.

I want to preface this review by saying I really like Tessa Bailey, I think she it a talented writer with a unique wit and I was really excited for this book especially coming off of Hook, Line and Sinker that was a five star read for me. That being said …….. This book just didn’t work for me and I’m super disappointed about that bc I really wanted to love it.
I just could not buy into what she was selling and I really tried! The instalove was so cringe and even for a plucky romcom just way too unbelievable. I could not ever connect with the FMC, she was just ridiculous. Between the overbearing mother hen act with her brother, the juvenile “I need to be brave” obsession and inserting herself into an investigation bc she listens to some podcast I literally could not stop rolling eyes. Myles the MMC is also just ridiculous and also probably the worst detective ever! Seriously, I hope no one ever has the misfortune of hiring a detective like him that can’t focus on a MURDER case bc he needs to get laid so bad by some girl he met five min after starting his case. I think if their relationship had more time to develop I could have bought into their connection more, especially Myles. How does a guy that rough turn to mush at the blink of an eye? The murder plot was weak but that’s not a big deal, I wasn’t expecting anything super clever.
In any case I understand this a little different from Baileys usual and points for trying something new but it just wasn’t for me. Will I continue to read her books? Absolutely.
