This book wasn't even on my radar until I saw a trailer for the movie, which I thought looked interesting enough to want to read the book. The story is very long and plods along at a rather slow pace (maybe to add to the "southern-charm"?) and it definitely favors the "young" side of "young adult". Besides a few chaste kisses and some weird dreams, the romance factor is very lacking. This is not the kind of story that kept me up all night reading because I couldn't put it down; I actually was distracted by other books several times and took breaks from reading this one and ended up not finishing it before the movie came out. It is a huge mistake to read 70% of a book, then watch the movie (which changes many things), then finish the rest of the book. I found myself disinterested and confused...but I will probably read the next book anyways.

The book was fine, but I was never excited to read it.

I actually finished this book a few weeks ago. It seemed to take forever to get this video edited! Anyways, check it out. http://youtu.be/7SvFJbedd8I

Happy Reading,

meh. honestly... meh. I was looking for a good "witch" series to read and this has been on my to-read list for a long time now, and after I saw the commercial on tv for the movie that just hit theaters... I figured i'd read it, I mean, they made a movie out of it right?
I felt the first half of the book as the same, over and over, never actually getting anywhere, just stating the same things again and again and again. The story, once it finally got going, was cute, nothing spectacular. I'll finish the series, because I'm stubborn like that but I honestly hope they get better. =3 (I wish they would make a movie out of the Sweep series! that one is epic.)

This is a hard one.
I watched the movie before I read the book, shockingly the movie was better and it was not that good of a movie (even tho the cast was SUPER)
Great idea but it was so boring. I was uninterested the whole time.

Beautiful Creatures had a good start; I was entertained by the small town atmosphere in the beginning since I'm from one myself. However, the book was really struggling by page 200--it just wasn't picking up the pace or holding my attention. And, it went downhill from there. By the end, I just wanted it to be over.

My main problem with the story was the POV of Ethan, a teenage boy who really came across as a 30 year old woman. I swear every time I put the book down and picked it up again later, it took me a few seconds to remember it was a dude telling the story. Garcia and Stohl possibly did the worse job ever (in my reading experience) at making a character's 'voice' believable. Aside from that huge problem, there were just a lot of cliches, predicable plot lines, and a generally low level of inventiveness. For instance, there is a code that consists of numbering the alphabet: A=1, B=2, etc. Seriously?? YA can be hit and miss for me sometimes and this was definitely a miss. I thought about giving it to my teenage sister to read, but I don't think even she could tolerate this.

I reserve my 1 star ratings for books I really feel are horrible, and this definitely wasn't that bad. But, I didn't like it either. I'm settling on 2 stars, because all in all I suppose it was 'ok'.
