There's a weight to Farah Rose Smith's writing that is unlike anything I've read up to this point. I don't know quite how to describe it, except that her stories are often like a dense fog that require you to stay put for a bit and truly experience them, which is not something I'm used to.

This is her first collection of short stories, and each story looks and feels different than the one near it. Some of the stories are dark, some disturbing, some pretty provocative, but all of them grabbed me and it made it hard to push through the nearly 200 pages at the pace I would otherwise because of how the structure is. Just an achievement.

As a separate aside, the Egaeus Press edition is one of the most gorgeous packages for a hardcover I've ever had, and I'm glad I have one of the copies available.

Don't miss out on this one.
