I love the character development in Allistair and Robin. The storyline and plot and writing makes it so believable that something of this exact nature could have occurred in real life. As the Author's Note (which I suggest reading), this sort of scenario queer folks, nonbinary folks and trans folk have existed for centuries now, and this is a story of one. My favorite character, though not appearing often, has got top be Keatings. He is such a funny fellow, down-to-earth and protective.

This was so incredibly amusing and it still managed to tell an interesting story with worthwhile characters.
Alistair had a very satisfying character arc and Charity/Robin was perhaps the best element of the novel (other than the narrator in the audiobook version, who did a wonderful job). Her being nonbinary was immaculately done and I found it such a delightful surprise and a refreshing change.

I loved this. Sebastian does a fantastic job of navigating gender nonconformity in a historical context as well as creating characters who are loveable through and through.

Dude this book rocked my world. I don't think I ever expected to see a non binary/gender nonconforming character in a regency romance but I could not have been happier stumbling across this. Cat Sebastian has skyrocketed herself to the top of my period piece romances and is gonna stay there for the forseeable future.

My only disappointment was that Robin wasn't able to convince the Marquess to go full blown "fuck the gentry" disband his estate and fuck off to a farm with her because I stg he would have and that's truly the leftist gay chaos we deserve.

I loved this book! The romance was so well-paced, the obstacles to the happy ending made sense, and the characters were easy to love. The pacing was perfect and the plots all meshed together well. I loved exploring how a nonbinary person would understand and present themselves in a world where that language doesn't exist yet and how their loved ones try understanding that.
