Clumsy and clunky, obsessed with the most trivial of details of the Henrician reformation while glossing over Elizabeth's reign (yes, there are reasons, since Henry made it clear why things were changing and exactly how much while Elizabeth always moved in something of a cloud of uncertainty), and filled with small errors throughout (Catherine Howard is referred to as the Duke of Norfolk's granddaughter rather than his niece, for example) the book does provide a good look at many of the popular aspects of reform in England. Too clunky overall to be recommended, though.

This is a pretty dry read. Not that it's boring, per say, just that it's very facts first and all about the facts. It also isn't very chronological. It bounces around some to show how things changed. Still an enjoyable read that really does give you the nuts and bolts of the reformation without adding in the court drama of Henry's marriages and executions. It pairs nicely with [b:The Burning Time: Henry VIII, Bloody Mary, and the Protestant Martyrs of London|33574091|The Burning Time Henry VIII, Bloody Mary, and the Protestant Martyrs of London|Virginia Rounding|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1496157203l/33574091._SX50_.jpg|54380522].
