A loud, colourful, bombastic, crowded, enjoyable, if a tad messy in places comic. If you like pop-y, pulp-y comics, then I'd recommend this. Whilst never one to be lauded as a fantastic showing as to what the genre can offer, it nevertheless, offers up a fun quick read that has some really nice emotional depth between the titular Aquaman and his brother, Orm. With some fantastic artwork by Paul Pelletier and Ivan Reis that rivals even that of the great Jim Lee's, if nothing; this book is just sumptuous to look at.

Perhaps one of the biggest tragedies of the last decade, was Geoff Johns being outed as an abuser and an egotistical arsebag; because much like J.K. Rowling (another arsebag) he is a talented writer. Flawed, yes; but talented. Here we see both sides of Johns' writing. He manages to create a really nice tense atmosphere that pairs nicely with the overall quick pace of the book. However the big plot twist is incredibly rushed, the ending (whilst tragic) is also rushed and the overstuffed nature of the story does highlight his weaknesses as a writer and his want and need to be THE writer for most of the DC Universe.

Whilst serving as the base template for the 2018 DCEU movie 'Aquaman', in many ways I feel like that movie is the superior version of the story, if for the visuals, score and cinematography alone. A decent, comic that is by no means a 'must read', but a fun one that will help you kill and hour or two if you have nothing to do.

This was my first time reading any Aquaman comic books, it was good and I enjoy the conflict that Aquaman had to face between his family and co-workers (Justice League).

First thing's first: despite Jason Momoa's Aquaman being on the cover, War for the Throne is NOT the comic version of the movie, it is a completely different story. That being said, the story is great (I quite liked the relationship between the brothers, that Orm is a very sympathetic not-quite villian, and the plot twist regarding Vulko), although the juxtaposition between the cover art and the story is likely to confuse new readers drawn to DC by the new Aquaman movie, which is somewhat disappointing. However, War for the Throne is a great story and a great introduction to the New 52's take on Aquaman! I'm happy to have read it and am likely to read the rest of the series.
