One doesn't really "read" a guide like this, from front-to-back, but I have paged around and read quite a bit of this one.

Intended primarily for ex-pats rather than tourists, it certainly is thorough and comprehensive. As a collaborative work that has been edited and republished countless times since 1975, I would note that bits and pieces of information on certain topics may be found in more than one location and the index doesn't necessarily resolve this problem.

Like most such guides, I suppose, the author (or authors) have a certain point of view - once you have a sense of what that is, it makes using the guide easier.

Because there is a separate Cairo Guide maps volume the book includes no maps at all. I'm not sure that's a entirely wise strategy...
