Not quite as propulsive as the first book, but it was a good follow up to move the story forward. Lots of magic and growing power in this one which was cool

More of a slow build to draw out for the next book.
More character development, after effects of the first book. Incredible ending leading into the next book.
I'm obsessed with Xiala - intriguing, complex.

I really really like these characters. Usually book 2 of a trilogy feels like filler, but this one kept me hooked, and I felt like there were enough twists to make it feel exciting, rather than just a lengthy moving of the pieces for book 3. Excited to finish the series!

I want to take Serapio and put him in a better story please, I love him so much. One of my favorite characters ever in anything. He's so cute, so cool, so creepy.

But just so little happens! There are a few moments I am obsessed with, but everything else is just meh.

Two huge deaths happen and they're emotionless, like make me feel something at least if you're going to kill off fun characters.

Xiala is fun too, I love her~ but I'm just like this is so meandering. Does anyone even know what they're doing at this point? I'm going to read the third one and if it's more of this I swear 💀

Fevered Star picks up where Black Sun left off. And while I definitely enjoyed this one it just didn’t feel as epic as Black Sun and the final battle was a bit underwhelming. The focus of this book was to lay the ground work for the third and final book in the series and it did just that so I can’t complain too much.

a) meet my worst enemy: weird pacing
b) i felt so disconnected from characters i enjoyed and liked in the last book, that I was just very bored and didn't care :/
