I will write more later, but for now, this book is exquisite in its beautiful broken melancholy and bittersweet sad girl apotheosis.

some books are just on another level, and this is one of them. The Seas is a surreal novel that the reader is never fully sure of, with the mother of all unreliable narrators. Hunt explores the feeling of loneliness and a chronic lack of belonging through the unnamed narrators complex relationship with the sea; the span of emotional and physical intimacy explored is immense. the writing style is unlike anything else, and i was hooked fully from the beginning. it’s impossible to explain this book due to its abstract nature, but the impact it will have on me is very real. i knew it would be good when i saw maggie nelson wrote the foreword; my girl maggie would never lead me astray.

weird sad manic pixie girl vibes. appreciate the utter strangeness of this book. kept me interested enough even if only to see what sort of unhinged shit the protagonist would do next. plot escalates in unexpected ways. writing is melancholic and dreamlike, but does feel forced at times. depictions of obsessive lust/longing were memorable. author's take on the nuances of language [?] didn't fully click with me - not big brain enough to understand the point of those sections. wouldn't say an altogether enjoyable reading experience but there were certainly compelling elements.
