The writting is incredible, and it was interesting to see the different POV on why the people act the way they do, and how we justify or give meaning to our lifes. A lot philosophical ideas were thrown into the narrative.
Spoiler However, the bullying scenes were a bit too harsh to read, I understand the meaning of these scenes, it was just hard to go through

honestly, i love the first half of the book a lot. it was painful and really eye opening to bullying until i got to the second half where everything got way too uncomfortable for me to handle. the ending to me was pretty unsatisfactory as well but overall i would still recommend this to others just because of how eye opening it is.

Nunca vieron Heaven juntos :,)

The strength of this novel lies in its  character’s interpersonal relationships or lack thereof. Humanity seeps through every page, even when the novel makes you question if that’s a good or bad thing.

This is an amazing quick read that manages the careful balance of asking questions about life, death, and morality while being told through the perspective of a child believably.  I would highly recommend checking the trigger warnings before picking it up as it does get incredibly heavy at some points. I will definitely be reading more by Mieko Kawakami.

This is not the kind of book I thought it was going to be. It was a lot darker and violent than I first thought. We follow too extremely bullied students and their bond over being the outcasts who are trying to find meaning in their unfair targeting. This pushes them to even further extremes as they seek comfort in one another.

I enjoyed this book in as much as I'm intrigued with translated fiction and the themes of bullying in Japanese school seem extreme but there are many things I didn't enjoy in this book in regards to the unnecessary jerking off scenes and unsatisfying ending.
